What about the fact the game had an abysmal initial launch that lead to the project manager resigning and the servers shutting down until all the bugs could be ironed out before a relaunch. And they had to offer free play time to the customers who got burned to ensure they would come back.
Yes 1.0 had a terrible launch, the director was removed from the project, and the game was rebuilt from the ground up by a new director. The servers for 1.0 remained open for a couple years after the game was declared a failure, and being remade. Last year 2.0 was released, which despite using the same locations, character races, etc, is actually a new game, which has NOT been shut down and actually brought in more players then the servers could handle, forcing square to bring in more servers. And like every MMO with sub fees, the first 30 days of play time is free. The current version, which is properly title Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, is responsible for bringing square back up financially, and reinstilling the faith of people in square.
So if you're referring to 1.0, no one plays it, because it no longer exists. If you're referring to 2.0, you need to get you're facts in line.
